Die unstillbare gier (The insatiable appetite)
MUSIC:
Jim Steinman - LYRICS:
Michael Kunze |
Von Krolock:
It's finally night
The moon is hiding away
It's afraid of me
No ray of light on the sky
No ray of hope
Just the silence. And within me
Strange reflections of my fear
The corn was golden and the sky was clear
1617
when it was summer
We were laying in the whispering grass
Her hand on my skin
was tender and warm
She didn't know that I was lost
I myself kept on believing
That I would win
But on that day it was the first time
She died in my arms
Like always when I reached
for the life
Nothing remained in my hand
I wanna be a flame
and become ashes
And haven't even burned
I wanna climb high and even higher
But I fall deeper and deeper into nothing
I wanna be an angel
Or the devil
But I'm just a creature
that always wants what it never gets
Was the just a little moment of luck for me
I would be able to live with all the pain
But all the hope is so senseless
And the hunger never stops
One day, when the earth dies
And the last human being with it
Then nothing remains
But the the boring desert
Of an everlasting greed
Remaining will just the emptyness
Of an everlasting greed
The pastor's daughter let me in at night
1730
After the celebrations ***
With her heart-blood I wrote a poem
On her white skin
And the emperor's servant from Napoleon's army (!translation of "Tross" might be wrong!)
1813
He stood came to the castle
That his sadness did not break my heart
Can I still not forgive myself
And always
When I reach for life
I feel like it falls apart
I wanna understand the world, and know it all
But I don't even know myself
I wanna be free and even more free
But I can't break out of these chains
I wanna be a saint
Or a criminal
But I ain't nothing but a creature
that crawls and lies
and has to destroy whatever it loves
Everybody believes that it will become better some day
So they try to endure all the pain
I will finally be satisfied
But my hunger never stops
Some belive in human nature
And some in money and glory
Some belive in art and sience
In love and heroism
Some believe in gods
Of different kinds
In wonders and signs
In heaven and hell
and in bible and brevier (Brevier is something religious. Don't know the English word)
But the real power
That controls us
is the disgraceful
everlasting
consuming
destroying
and always everlasting greed
To all the mortals from tomorrow
I can tell you now and here
Before the next millenium starts
Is the only god that everyone serves
The everlasting greed
***: I don't know what Mainandacht means in English (I don't even really know what it is in German. But at least I know that it's some kind of a church celebration. The word that fits best is celebrations, so I used it)
